LOCAL author Ann Billingham and Thurrock’s Museum and Heritage Officer Jonathan Catton have teamed up to bring you an exciting new book to celebrate Thurrock. Thurrock Food Now and Then details the history of food in Thurrock through the ages and looks at the type of food available in our community today, making its own mark in history.
The book also contains recipe sections. Thurrock residents, Thurrock’s Mayor, M.P.’s and local councillors have contributed their traditional and contemporary recipes for inclusion in the book to show their support for this venture.

All proceeds from the sale of this book are being donated to Thurrock foodbank and as well as raising funds, the publication of this book will raise people’s awareness of this charity and the vital role that Thurrock foodbank plays in our community. The foodbank provides emergency food parcels for individuals and families in crisis. Since opening in July 2012, Thurrock foodbank has provided for over 1,000 people across Thurrock.
Sainsbury’s supermarket, Chafford Hundred is very keen to support this project and has applied for a £500 grant to cover some of the printing costs.
Thurrock Food Now and Then is being published in May and will go on sale in June 2013 at a public launch to be held in the Thameside Complex, Grays. Details of book launch to be publicised nearer the time.
