All The World’s A Stage
TAKE FIVE Summer School for Young Musicians
Thursday 24, Friday 25 and Saturday 26 July
Palmer’s College, Chadwell Road, Grays, Essex, RM17 5TD
The Royal Opera House is working with Music Education Hubs across Essex and East London on its TAKE FIVE Summer School for young instrumentalists and singers. The Summer School for local young people aged 11-18 years takes place at Palmer’s College in Grays from Thursday 24 to Saturday 26 July.
Young musicians from five areas: Barking & Dagenham, Essex, Havering, Southend and Thurrock have the opportunity to join professional musicians and singers in the TAKE FIVE three day Summer School to explore six different operas and create a new piece.
TAKE FIVE explores operas by Mozart, Purcell and Puccini amongst others. The young musicians will work with mentors from the five Music Education Hubs and the Royal Opera House Chorus and Orchestra to look at, in depth, pieces from the different operas. They will together create a new piece with the theme of the Seven Ages of Man taking Shakespeare’s words from As You Like It as inspiration.
A short performance for friends and family will close the Summer School on Saturday 26 July.
