M25 closed in both directions after fatal collision

    Update: 1700 hrs

    Two men, aged 33 and 25, have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving in connection with a fatal road traffic collision which occurred on the M25 shortly before 2am today. They are both receiving treatment in hospital and will be interviewed in due course

    Update: 1315 hrs

    Police have completed their initial investigation into the circumstances of a multiple vehicle fatal road traffic collision on the M25 early this morning.

    The vehicles involved were a Peugeot car, a Scania lorry, a DAF artic, a Mercedes lorry and a Romanian lorry. The man who died was pronounced dead at the scene and his body has now been taken to the mortuary at Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow.

    He is believed to be a 39-year-old man from Leicester.

    Four other people remain in hospital receiving treatment for injuries which are not believed to be serious.

    The M25 currently remains shut between junctions 25 and 27 while clean up and repair work continue.

    Police have now released the scene to the Highways Agency.

    Update: 1035 hrs

    1. M25 closed and severe delays anticlockwise between J27 M11 and J25, A10 (Enfield), because of a serious multi-vehicle accident and recovery work. Diversion in operation – via the hollow black square on the M11, A406 and A10. Congestion to J28, A1023 (Brook Street Roundabout).

    2. M25 closed and severe delays clockwise between J23 A1(M) and J27 M11, because of a serious multi-vehicle accident and recovery work. Diversion in operation – via the A1, A406 and M11. Congestion to J21a, A405 (St Albans).

    3. Slow traffic on A121 Golding’s Hill northbound in Loughton between the Baldwin’s Hill junction and Wake Arms Roundabout.

    4. Heavier than usual traffic on A128 High Street northbound in Chipping Ongar between The Borough junction and Four Wantz Roundabout.

    5. Queuing traffic and heavier than usual traffic on A414 in both directions in Harlow between Clock Tower and Hastingwood Interchange.

    6. Delays and heavier than usual traffic on A414 westbound between the Highwood Road junction in Writtle and the M11 J7 junction in Harlow

    7. Very slow traffic on B1393 High Road southbound in Epping between the Thornwood Road junction and the B182 Bury Lane junction.

    8. A414 Essex – A414 in Harlow busy but moving into town before Park Inn junction.

    9. A414 Essex – Slow traffic on A414 southbound in Harlow at the M11 J7 Hastingwood Roundabout junction.

    THE M25 remains closed in both directions between junctions 25 and 27 following a fatal road traffic collision at around 1.50am today.

    One person has been confirmed deceased and three other people have been taken to hospital for treatment to injuries which at this time are not believed to be life threatening.

    Investigations are continuing and police are also working with the Highways Agency to clear the carriageways of debris so that repairs and resurfacing can be carried out.

    No definite time for the reopening of the motorway can be set yet but it is likely to remain closed throughout the morning rush hour.
