THE Chief Constable of Essex Police, Steven Kavanagh, has suggested that the schools in Chafford Hundred, need to "think outside the box" when it comes to traffic issues outside schools.

Mr Kavanagh was responding to a question from John Bennett of the Chafford Hundred Road Safety Forum.

Since Mr Bennett started the forum a few months ago, he has been deluged with complaints from local residents that parking has become "even more of a nightmare" in Chafford Hundred.

Mr Bennett asked the chief if he thought Essex Police was doing enough.

The chief’s general response was to detail the road traffic demands of Essex Police.

These demands included the A13, M25, DP World, cruisers at Lakeside.

He added: "I do think that schools bear some responsibility. They may need to think outside the box and find ways of reducing traffic."

Some experts have pointed to the schools who have used traffic cones to prevent parking on the pavement immediately outside schools as well as use of Walking Buses and arrangements to use other car parks.
