Thurrock Arts are set to blaze a trail

THE 2014 Thurrock Art Trail (ThAT) starts in just two weeks on Saturday 6 September.

Now in its third year, the Trail includes 13 venues in 7 of Thurrock’s towns and villages. Around 80 artists will be displaying their work.

Venues include the Thurrock Riverside Nature Park in Mucking; the Well House and Swan Galleries in Horndon; the High House Artists’ Studios in Purfleet; the Thameside Complex foyer in Grays; and four church buildings.

"We hope the public will come out and see that art isn’t something elitist but for everyone," says Tim Harrold, one of ThAT’s facilitators. "We hope ThAT will inspire more creativity as people realise that anyone can express themselves in all sorts of different ways."

The artists come from all backgrounds, ages, abilities and a wide variety of practices. There are painters, sculptors and photographers; those who work in collage, mixed media and textiles; portraitists and landscapers; abstractionists and conceptualists – something for everyone!

ThAT culminates with weekend of events at High House Production Park. On Friday 19 September, the Artists’ Studios will be open to the public from 10am to 5pm. This will feature a ‘Sculpture Yard’. At 6pm there will be a ‘Pop Up Gallery’ in the Backstage Centre, followed at 7.30pm by a Showcase event featuring a local poet, folk singer, pop artist and a couple of surprises. On Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st the Artists’ Studios and Sculpture Yard will be open from 11am to 4pm.

More information on this and all the other ThAT events are available on www.thurrockarts.com, @thurrockarts and www.facebook.com/ThurrockArtsTrail.
