ESSEX Firefighters were called to reports of a ground floor flat fire on Dock Road in Tilbury.
When crews arrived they reported that the flat was well alight and used two hose reel jets, breathing equipment and a thermal imaging camera to extinguish the fire by 01.49.
One man suffered smoke inhalation.
Crews reported that the flat has 40% fire damage and 100% smoke damage.
An investigation will now be carried out by the fire service to establish the cause of the fire.
