A HOUSEBUILDER has donated hundreds of pounds to a group in Stanford-le-Hope to help establish a community building in a park.
Barratt Homes Eastern Counties gave £500 to Friends of Hardie Park, a group set up to transform the park on Hardie Road into a thriving community facility after the equipment was torched by vandals. The money from Barratt has been used to relocate a building which will house a café, meeting room and toilets. The Barratt Homes development Maple Park is located less than a mile from Hardie Park on Butts Lane.
Friends of Hardie Park have taken on the management of the park and will recruit volunteers to staff the café. Their other projects include creating a skatepark, offering training opportunities in the café and providing mentoring and other support in the meeting room.
Shane Ralph, Director of Friends of Hardie Park, said: “After the park equipment was vandalised, a group of parents got together and decided to take control because we wanted to create a park for our children to play in as well as somewhere the wider community would enjoy visiting. The café will be at the heart of the park and we are grateful to Barratt Homes for their donation as it has helped us fund the relocation and refurbishment of our building.”
Jason Colmer, Sales and Marketing Director at Barratt Homes Eastern Counties, said: “It’s great to hear our donation has already been put to good use and is helping to provide a building which will offer so many different opportunities to the community in Stanford-le-Hope. Working with the local community is an extremely important part of our philosophy at Barratt Homes and wherever we build houses we look at ways we can support the surrounding area by offering funding to projects and groups like Friends of Hardie Park.”
New homes will be available to buy at Maple Park next year. For more information please call 0844 8114888 or visit www.barratthomes.co.uk .
