GRAYS SHOPPING Centre’s 2015 Bag It. Beat It. stock appeal for The British Heart Foundation (BHF) launched on in October when volunteers from the local BHF shop handed out special Bag It. Beat It. bags to shoppers.

The donated items from the launch will now go on to be sold in BHF shops and help fund life saving research, support those living with a heart disease and raise awareness of the effects that a sudden devastating diagnosis can have on a family.

Bags of good quality clothes, shoes, toys, books, CDs, DVDs and bric-a-brac, can now be taken to the nearest BHF shop.

Last year the BHF raised over £130 million from voluntary income alone, £115.5 million of which supported research.

This enabled them to fund scientists at more than 40 different locations in the UK.

BHF also supports families affected by a sudden devastating diagnosis and creates communities who are able to share their advice and experiences with those who have been through similar experiences.

Keely Huxman, BHF Area Manager, commented:

“On behalf of the BHF I would like to thank Grays Shopping Centre for hosting this year’s Bag It. Beat It. event.

“People often don’t realise that the books, shoes or dress they donate to or buy from their local BHF shop actually raises vital funds and helps pay for life saving research.

“Every week around 2,000 families lose a loved one to heart disease, but with continued support from local people, the BHF can fight harder to reduce this figure.”
