FORMER Lib Dem, Lord Oakeshott, was seen out in Thurrock on Monday campaigning with Labour candidate, Polly Billington.

The former Lib Dem treasury spokesperson was snapped wearing the red rosette as he stood in Bedford Road in Grays.

He was an outspoken critic of the coalition government from the outset until he resigned from the party in 2014.

In January, it was reported that he had donated £600,000 to "left-leaning"parliamentary hopefuls in the quest to stave off a Conservative victory in the election.

It was claimed that the money was to be spread across 46 constituencies in marginal seats. Half donated to 30 Labour candidates and the rest split between 15 Liberal Democrat candidates and Caroline Lucas, the Green Party MP for Brighton Pavilion.

A spokesperson for Polly Billington’s office said: "Yes, we have received a donation from Lord Oakeshott and that will be declared with the electoral commission."
