THURROCK Sports Council held its AGM on Monday 13th April and it was chaired by The Mayor Steve Liddiard.

In his report the chair said: “A year of operating change, not always successful but we are learning on our feet and communication is improving.

The test for the coming year is to enable whatever funding is available to reach our sports people.

2014-15 allowed T.S.C to reach thirteen different sports by agreeing 70% of applications. Three outstanding competitors plus both the Primary Schools Football and Ladies Cricket were sponsored; four clubs received coaching aid; three clubs were helped with equipment; two special category sports people were grant aided. I expect that thanks to this level of support from Thurrock Sports Council clubs will involve between one and two hundred new competitors.

I feel we must aim to bring the sports people of Thurrock together to minimise the effect of less investment in facilities.”

Thanks were given for the support of committee members and councillors who attend the meetings. Officers were elected but a minutes secretary is required.

The final payments of the year were recorded: Primary Football £1700, Jessica Whelan Ice Skating £250, Karate £360, Gymnastics £620, Thurrock Model Flying club £1000, South Essex District Cricket Board £336, JSC Judo £390.51.

The final balance from the year is £448.34. The amount of next year’s grant has not been announced. This past year we received £6888 – last year it was £9500.

The Sports council would like groups to inform them of sporting developments in the borough.
