TORY councillors in Thurrock will be voting against a recommendation produced by an independent body this Wednesday at Full Council, concerning a recommendation that Cabinet members in Thurrock should receive an increase of their basic allowance.
Spokesperson, cllr Shane Hebb said: "Conservatives in Thurrock have led the way in reducing councillors pay, and have lobbied hard for senior officers to do the same",
He added: "Under no circumstances could we give with one hand and endorse a pay rise for those in higher office, and then look our constituents in the eye when we take from the other hand when the difficult decisions start to come.
"We will also argue for a full review on how Councillor allowances are calculated, which ensures that all spending on supporting elected members stays inside the boundaries of an agreed budget and is more transparent."
