THE CEO of the Essex Wildlife Trust has responded to criticism by volunteers at the Thameside Nature Park regarding working conditions.

    CEO, John Hall said:

"We are extremely sorry if any volunteer at Thurrock Thameside Nature Park feels they have not been fully appreciated for the time they have given; we are truly grateful for everything they have done.

Since opening in 2012, the park has rapidly become a focal point for the local community, with a team of 40 invaluable volunteers helping to run the site and welcome thousands of visitors, with enthusiasm and dedication. We know most of these volunteers are extremely happy to be involved and recognise our appreciation.

We understand volunteers may have different opinions and views; that is human nature, but it is not possible to agree with all of them. We do have procedures and channels for people to raise concerns and we are setting up informal get-togethers with all volunteers at Thurrock Thameside Nature Park, to ensure any issues are dealt with immediately.

We make an effort to thank volunteers at the end of every day for doing such a fantastic job and have laid on a barbecue to say thank you to those who volunteer at Thurrock Thameside Nature Park.

We are extremely grateful to all our 2,000 volunteers across Essex who do such a valuable job in supporting the work that our staff do, helping our county become better for wildlife and people.

"Many of our volunteers have been helping the Trust for years, illustrating the strength of the bond we have with our volunteers. It is a reciprocal relationship that is enjoyed, respected and cherished".
