THE WHITE Hart pub in Grays has been given listed status.
The Argent Street pub joins eighteen other pubs in being listed by Historic England.
Roger Bowdler, the director of listing at Historic England, said that all the pubs fulfill the criteria of every listed building from St Paul’s Cathedral and Chatsworth House down to a modest Edwardian terraced house or Norman parish church.
“Listing is about identifying special architectural and historic interest,” he told a paper. “
A lot of the interest in architecture is not just about the aesthetics, it’s also the stories it tells. In terms of social history, these are really important places.
At the very least this listing means that the White Hart, unlike a number of the pubs and significant buildings in the Thurrock area that have been demolished.
