Thurrock childminder receives "Outstanding’ accolade from Ofsted

    A THURROCK childminder has received a glowing report from the government inspectors, Ofsted.

    Emmie Hinchliffe was inspected in August and the report was published in September.

    Ms Hinchliffe told YT: "I’m thrilled to have retained my outstanding grading, six and a half years since my last grading which was also outstanding.

    "It’s great to work with wonderful children and their families and see great achievements all round."

    The report makes the following observations:

    1. The quality of the childminder’s teaching is outstanding. Therefore, children make exceptional progress in their learning.

    2. The childminder is committed to continually developing her professional skills. She uses the skills she has gained through her professional qualifications to provide an extensive variety of activities and experiences that promote excellent outcomes for children.

    3. The childminder uses her planning systems extremely well to incorporate children’s interests and areas for development. This ensures they are motivated and eager to learn.

    4. The childminder provides a vast range of excellent quality resources that promote children’s development in all areas of learning. Children learn about the natural world and life cycles as they explore how insects develop and change.

    5. Children form exceptionally secure attachments to the childminder. She provides a warm and homely environment where children feel safe. Children settle easily into her care and develop a sense of belonging in the setting.

    6. Children develop exceptionally strong skills in communication and language because the childminder engages them in conversation. She asks them open-ended questions that promote their memory and thinking skills.

    7. Children behave extremely well in the childminder’s care because they are continually engaged in fascinating activities. She sets realistic boundaries and children enjoy receiving praise and encouragement.

    8. The childminder has a thorough understanding of safeguarding and understands how to protect the children in her care. She has an excellent knowledge of local procedures and how to record and report any concerns.

    9. The childminder demonstrates an extremely strong drive for improvement and seeks feedback from parents, children and other professionals.
