PREVIEW: East Thurrock United looking to put injury ravaged start behind them with positive result at Staines

    By Matthew Biggadike

East Thurrock boss John Coventry has spoken of his desire for three points ahead of his sides clash with 14th place Staines Town tomorrow afternoon.

Speaking before the game John said “I’d like to come away with the 3 points, the team are showing good form and are in a confident mood”.

East Thurrock head to Wheatsheaf Park on the back of a spirited 3-1, 10-man away win at Yaxley in the FA cup first qualifying round. However, their league form has been slightly less impressive with 2 wins, 4 draws and 2 losses. This has no doubt been in part down to their injury hit start to the season which has left John and East Thurrock fans cursing their luck.

Coventry stated “We have been very unlucky with the injuries this season, but that’s football. Every club takes its turn and it just so happens that we’ve had our injury period early on in the season”

In terms of team news, East Thurrock are boosted by the return of Striker Sam Higgins who bagged two goals midweek, however Kris Newby is expected to be out for approximately two months following a dislocated elbow in last weeks Yaxely clash. Joe Paxman suffered a broken fibula whilst on loan at Burnham Ramblers and Kye Ruel will also miss out.
