STEPHEN Metcalfe, Member of Parliament for South Basildon & East Thurrock, is set to take part in a charity dance competition in aid of St Luke’s Hospice in Basildon.

‘Strictly St Luke’s’, inspired by hit BBC show Strictly Come Dancing, aims to raise thousands of pounds for the local hospice and its patients.

Mr Metcalfe will be partnered with Joanna Ridley of Essex-based dance school The Jive Club and will dance a tango and a jive.

The competition is scheduled to take place on 18 March 2017 at the Springhouse Club in Corringham.

Mr Metcalfe said:

“I am delighted to be taking part in this charity dance competition for St Luke’s Hospice.

“Seriously ill patients and their families should have access to the highest quality palliative support and end-of-life care which is provided so ably by the brilliant staff and volunteers at St Luke’s. It is an honour to be raising money for this worthy cause.

“Although I do not profess to be a dancer of any kind, I hope to take a lead from Ed Balls and show that politicians can have a good go at it while helping to raise much needed funds and entertaining people at the same time.”
