FIRE CREWS spent hours tackling a deep seated fire involving 100 tonnes of recycling material.
The location was the Rio Recycling quarry on Stanford Road, Grays.
The incident commander reported that 20% of the material was well alight.
Crews used two hose reel jets and a monitor to tackle the fire.
Heavy plant machinery was also used in helping firefighters in their effort to find the seat of the fire.
Update: Firefighters had extinguished the fire by 23:56hrs using two monitors, three main jets and two hose reel jets.
They remained on site fir a further 45 minutes turning over and damping down.
A revisit is set to take place at 08:00hrs Saturday.
