A MAN has today been charged in connection with an incident in Purfleet in which a delivery driver was run over while trying to stop the theft of his lorry.
Leonard Wilsher, 40 of The Fremnells, Basildon, has been charged with theft of a motor vehicle, causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving while disqualified, all at Wood Avenue Purfleet, on July 9. He was remanded in custody to appear at Southend Magistrates’ Court tomorrow, Saturday August 10.
David Fletcher 58 from Upminster was seriously injured after two men drove off in his vehicle as he was making a delivery in Wood Avenue.
Mr Fletcher who received multiple injuries was treated at the Royal London Hospital before being transferred this week to Queens Hospital, Romford. He has regained consciousness however, he does still have life changing injuries.
Five other men who were arrested in connection with the investigation have been released on police bail until September 20.
