Thousands visit Horndon Fayre

Horndon-on-the-Hill
Summer Feast and Fayre
Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th June

by Lisa Chapman

There is something quintessentially English about visiting a local village fayre and this weekend at Horndon-on-the-Hill is no exception. The village has closed its roads for the next couple of days and the Fayre’s participants have set up a multitude of interesting stalls and sideshows to entertain visitors of all age groups. Everything about this particular Fayre shouts English tradition and with so many distractions you really don’t know where to look next. There are Morris dancers, various bands playing different styles of music, dancers, singers and even a puppet show extravaganza. An announcer has the task of ensuring that each act is advertised just before its appearance so you have no excuse for not being in the right place at the right time.

If you are hungry there are stalls selling burgers, curries, jams and chutneys as well as candyfloss, icecream, sweets and homemade cakes of course. There is also a hog roast situated at the Swan Inn next to the main stage. If you are looking to buy presents or just want to browse, there are numerous stalls selling a variety of crafts, cards, pottery, plants, in fact gifts for all occasions!

Yourthurrock had a lovely day filming in the sunshine so have a look at the film of our day! If you missed it this time around then make a date in your diary for next year, it is well worth a visit.
