Lee Balkwell Death Case Re-opened.

AN INDEPENDENT REVIEW of the death of Lee Balkwell, crushed to death in a cement mixer is set to take place.

Essex Police have agreed to bring in another force to examine the original investigation after concerns were raised by the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

Mr Balkwell, 33, was found crushed in the machinery of a mixing lorry at Baldwins Farm, near South Ockendon, in July 2002.

Since his death, Mr Balkwell’s father, Les has maintained that his son was murdered. His website: www.justiceforlee balkwell.com is a comprehensive analysis of events prior, during and after the death and makes some serious points regarding the investigation.

IPCC commissioner Rachel Cerfontyne said the review will identify whether any lines of enquiry were not followed or any evidence missed. She said if there was, then they would investigate thoroughly.

She added: “Our ongoing investigation can only look at the specifics of Mr Balkwell’s complaints about the investigation into his son’s death.

“It is outside our remit to investigate Lee’s death as there is no allegation that it was at the hands of police officers.”

  1. Les Balkwell’s site about the circumstances surrounding his son’s death makes very interesting reading and if the facts that are listed on there are correct then Essex Police need to be brought to book over this investigation.
