Aveley Memorial Dedication.

THIS sunday at noon sees the dedication to the Aveley war memorial in the High Street.

As well as working to improve the immediate area, the names of villagers who died during World War Two and that of Lance Corporal Nicky Mason, who was killed last year while on a military operation in Afghanistan, have been added to the memorial.

Much of the hard work and organisation has been down to an array of members of the close-knit Aveley community led by Cllr John Cowell.

He said: “I would like to say a big thank you to all the individuals, businesses and the Aveley and Kenningtons Community Forums who have made donations or offered their time or resources for free to help with the refurbishment.

“Although the names of our fallen villagers from World War Two are recorded at St Michael’s Church they had not been inscribed on the village war memorial.

“These people are more than just names though, they were our fellow villagers who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom in our hour of need. They must not be forgotten.”

YourThurrock cameras will be there to record the event. Below is a film of the dedication of the plaque for Nicky Mason.
