Thurrock slipped to their 5th defeat of the season against a well-drilled Bromley & Beckenham team. Tees had high hopes of a good result against their opposition after a 2-2 draw with the team in a pre-season friendly. The home side started quickly exerting pressure on Thurrock and this eventually paid off when they were awarded a penalty flick from which they scored to take the lead. Thurrock then withstood the pressure until the last second of the first half when they scored again, this time from a penalty corner.
With the score at 2-0 at half time Tees were still confident they could get something out of the game, but their hopes were dashed early on in the second half when bromley & Beckenham scored two further goals from penalty corners. Thurrock then began to show more attacking prowess themselves and stayed in their opposition’s half for long periods of time. Tees were finally rewarded for their second half efforts when a powerfully struck penalty corner by Miriam Nichols was saved by the goalkeeper, but the rebound was well picked up by Nicola Pugh allowing Louise Pike to force the ball over the line.
Unfortunately, as in the first half, Bromley & Beckenham scored another late penalty corner for the final result to be 5-1 to the home side.
Thurrock ‘s first string will look to bounce back next week with a home fixture at Palmers against Chelmsford Ladies 2’s.
