Mel Re-appointed for NHS

Mel Porter has been re-appointed, by the Appointments Commission, to the Board of NHS South West Essex.

Derek Morrison, chairman of NHS South West Essex, says: “I am delighted that Mel remains on the Board. I am confident that we will continue to benefit from his wealth of knowledge and that he will contribute to strengthening our role as local leader of the NHS.
“It is a real privilege to serve the NHS – and its patients – in this way and, from personal experience I know that it will continue to be hugely rewarding to Mel.”

Mel worked as an accountant in the public sector for 28 years, and has dealt with all aspects of financial management. Towards the end of his public sector career he ran a large technical organisation and played a key role in the compulsory competitive tendering processes.

Mel now works part time, as a consultant in the private and public sectors. Mel was a Non Executive Director for Thurrock PCT for four years. Mel also advises a number of local voluntary organisations. He lives in Horndon on the Hill and is married with a 21 year old daughter.

Mel is also Chair of NHS South West Essex Community Services, a member of Thurrock Children’s Trust Board, and a Member of Shaping Thurrock Partnership Board.

Mel’s re-appointment as a non-executive director of NHS South West Essex commenced on 1 October 2009 and runs until 30 September 2013.
