The Thameside Theatre, Grays will be the first to screen the award winning film ‘Fish Tank’ written and directed by Andrea Arnold. Fish Tank will be screened twice daily at 4.00pm & 9.45pm on Wednesday 25, Thursday 26, & Friday 27 November 2009.
FISH TANK is the story of Mia (Thurrock-girl KATIE JARVIS), a volatile 15-year-old, who is always in trouble, has been excluded from school and ostracized by her friends. One hot summer’s day her mother (KIERSTON WAREING) brings home a mysterious stranger called Connor (MICHAEL FASSBENDER) who promises to change everything and bring love into all their lives.
Set in the landscape and council estates of Essex, Arnold reinforces her reputation as a British auteur and casts the same unflinching, unprejudiced gaze and touches on the themes of her Oscar-winning short WASP to create an original and unsettling tale for our age.
Andrea Arnold just completed ‘Fish Tank’, her second feature, which won the Jury Prize at the Cannes International Film Festival 2009. ‘Red Road’, her first feature, was awarded the Jury Prize in Cannes 2006. She has also won a list of other awards for her work over the years because of her unique approach to engaging with her audiences. This film is not to be missed!!
