INSPECTIONS carried out over the weekend and early today have forced Thurrock Council and its contractor Veolia to postpone waste and recycling collections.
Friday’s scheduled collections were cancelled after heavy snowfall and freezing temperatures and it was hoped, weather permitting, that the collections would take place on Saturday.
However the continued freeze has meant it is still too dangerous to carry out collections. Although many roads are now clear of ice and snow, many pavements are frozen and deemed to be too hazardous for refuse collectors to work on.
As a result, waste and recycling collections will not be carried out today.
If it is possible and safe to start collecting again tomorrow (Tuesday), they will start on last Friday’s work.
