GRAYS HIGH Street was thrown into chaos after a suspected package was found next to a bin
A blue suitcase was placed next to the bin which was yards from the Bon Marche store just after 1.20pm today.
Hundreds of shoppers were evacuated as the police flung a cordon around the busy high street with traffic diverted around the town.
Dozens of police were joined by ambulance crews as they awaited the arrival of the Bomb Squad.
On arrival, the Bomb Squad sent in a remote control device, which after close inspection detonated the suitcase, creating a huge bang.
Early indications are that the suitcase was empty.
