Thurrock’s council chamber rang with enthused debate on Wednesday last week (13 January) when pupils from a Chafford Hundred school sat in front of mayor, Cllr Maureen Pearce.
Youngsters from Tudor Court in Bark Burr Road filled the chamber in the Civic Offices, Grays at the invitation of the council’s Cabinet member for Children’s Services, Cllr Sue MacPherson.
Council officers were also there to answer questions from the pupils.
As well as young people from the Tudor Court School Council, members of the school’s Environmental Council and the Learning and Achievements Council took part in the debate.
Cllr MacPherson said: “The children were well informed and asked questions about academic achievements and the environment before finishing with debates on the same issues.”
She added: “I was so proud of the mature attitude of these Key Stage 2 children who questioned me and the officers.
“I would like to thank the school for coming into the Chamber and to say what a pleasure it was to meet the children.”
