William Edward’s: Public Speaking

THIS IS a pet subject for us at YourThurrock towers. Thirty years ago, pupils from Essex comprehensive schools were dissuaded from entering public speaking. “Because they speak in a peculiar and embarassing way”. How times and levels of confidence have changed. Especially at a school like William Edward’s where spirits, standards and aspirations continue to flourish.

Over the past two years, students have entered the local and regional Jack Petchey Public Speaking competitions. Last year, the group came second, which is a fantastic achievement.

We spoke to the successful students from last year but also to this year’s applicants, who told us about the whole training process and the help staff had given to them.
