WHERE are the young radicals? Decades, even years ago, the colleges and universities would have been bursting with left wing debate and protest. Now it appears, if it isn’t on the syllabus they won’t be discussing it. Indeed only yesterday, Thurrock MP Andrew Mackinlay was asking why there was no debate or hustings at Palmer’s College as there had been on previous occasions.
So it was heartening to see a young firebrand such as 21-year-old Aaron standing for the first time. Still rough around the edges and often told off by his political masters for going off message but isn’t that the impetuosity of youth?
Ready to be in elected office? Probably not but perhaps, after the election, Aaron and a few others need to sit down and plan how they can get more people involved in radical politics.
Aaron is standing in Little Thurrock Rectory. We spoke to him about the challenges in the ward.
