FORMER Vice-Chair of the controversial Thurrock Council Planning Committee, Barry Palmer has gone on the record to “clear his name” in the wake of the Collison report.
The veteran East Tilbury councillor has been a councillor for twenty three years, fifteen of them on the Planning Committee.
Barry said: “I welcome many of the recommendations in the report. Before this report, I was the first to insist that my voting record was recorded for the purposes of transparency
“I said in council a few months ago and I will repeat it now that we (councillors) are laymen and are there to be guided by expert professionals (officers)
“Councillors do not have a divine right to be heard and obeyed and it would be disappointing to be all tarred with the same brush.”
