THURROCK Courts Players stalwarts, John Scowen and Jill Snelling put in sparkling performances on the first night of the Drama Festival.

Melody written by Deidre Kinahan tells the story of two lonely middle aged individuals who develop a bond and love over lunchtime in a Dublin park. However both hide secret lives that slowly unravel as the narrative unfolds.

The two have a lovely chemistry that lets the play move at a gentle pace. John and Jill are able to dictate the pace of the play so that the humour and the pathos mix perfectly.

Personally the highlight was John Scowen’s series of expressions as the couple are “papped”. An absolute delight.
