ONE of the most popular teachers in the borough has been awarded with an MBE after a lifetime of service to education and to sport.
Carlton Darrell, 71 has been teaching badminton to schoolchildren across Thurrock for over 40 years.
Carlton started up Thurrock Junior Badminton Club in 1971 and is still president of the club today.
Carlton started out in education as a teacher at Woodside Primary School in Grays and later became deputy head of Chadwell-St-Mary Primary School.
YourThurrock caught up with Carlton on the day he retired from the Badminton Club last year to reflect on his service to sport on education.
