PUBLIC art is always a topic for debate. You can’t help be inspired as you drive past the Angel of the North way up on the A1 outside Newcastle. The work of sculptor Henry Moore adorned various public spaces over in Harlow. It was a crying shame that the bronze seats next to the Purfleet bridge were stolen. There will always be iconoclasts and philistines.
The work of Lata Upadhyaya as part of Artifact should illuminate the borough. Working from a workshop in Grays, Lata supported by her husband Jonathan and a coterie of artists, they hope to encourage the idea of art inspiring the environment in Thurrock. Her work is wonderful. We spoke to Jonathan about the work and their hopes for the future.
