The first cohort of Palmer’s College students studying the International Baccalaureate (IB) celebrated their excellent results this week.

All eighteen students who completed the course gained either a Diploma or Certificate with the total result beating the IB world average and eleven of the group achieving grades exceeding 3 A grades at A Level.

Most of the group will now go on to prestigious universities where they will study subjects such as Sports Science, Marine Biology, English, History and Physics.

Due to its range of subjects the IB qualification is recognised as a genuinely broad and challenging programme. The average equates to the same as A*, A, A at A Level and 381 UCAS points.

Holly Burton, ex-De La Salle student, achieved the highest result with 37 points, equivalent to over four A Levels at the highest grade with 545 UCAS points.

Holly said: “I am very proud of my performance. I found the IB a challenge but definitely a good challenge and if I had the chance, I’d do it again.”

IB Co-ordinator, John Death said: “I am absolutely delighted with the results. The students have been justly rewarded for their committed work and I congratulate the students and also the teachers.

This group has also had a massively positive cultural impact around the college and I’m sure they will all be a success in whatever they do.

Mark Vinall, Principal of Palmer’s College said: “These are brilliant results for a wonderful group of young people and I am thrilled to see so many hard working and deserving students gain places at some of our finest universities.

He added: This also provides a firm platform for the College to continue the delivery of this excellent qualification.”

The College launched the IB programme in 2008.
The IB offers a uniquely balanced, coherent sixth form curriculum that promotes international understanding, personal confidence and social responsibility complemented by flexible, independent learning.

Palmer’s College is now the only College offering the IB Programme in South Essex.

Students still interested in studying the IB this year should contact the Palmer’s College admissions team on 01375 370121.
