WITH the Blackwall Tunnel closed for southbound traffic, each weekend, the traffic heading south over the QE2 Bridge seems to be getting heavier and heavier.
Yesterday afternoon, all roads around the Thurrock junctions were grid-locked. The M25 tailed back to the Brentwood turn off; the London-bound-A13 tailed back to the Grays junction; The Southend-bound A13 became clogged at the Dartford junction.
On the off-roads, traffic trying to get to Lakeside tailed back past Sainsbury’s in Chafford Hundred. Rat-runners trying to go through Aveley saw the traffic tail from the Thurrock Hotel all the way back to Aveley.
Plus traffic trying to get out saw a queue stretching from Junction 30 all the way to the M11 turn off.
It was not a pretty sight. It looks set to continue with the school holiday weekend coming up, one of the biggest weekends of the summer.
Garrett Emmerson, Chief Operating Officer for London Streets, TfL, said: ‘We apologise for the inconvenience this weekend closure may cause while these essential works are being carried out.
‘Our contractor will be working 24 hours a day to ensure that these works are completed as soon as possible.
