Bill Robinson reports …….
Billericay Town 2 Thurrock 1
A goal in each half was enough to secure a well earned victory for Ryman Premier side Billericay Town against a less than enthusiastic Thurrock side.
A defensive error in the 4th minute saw a short corner from Billericay turn into a simple tap in by centre forward Danny Charge after Lee Flynn failed to clear.
This set the Home side up and they continued to look the more eager to win the ball and keep the attacks flowing.
The second half saw some changes in personnel but the pattern changed very little, Thurrock looked more positive in their attacking but never threatened the Billericay goal.
Then from a Thurrock free kick deep in their own half Billericay scored their second in the 80th minute. The free kick was taken quickly and played Lee Flynn into trouble as both centre forwards quickly closed him down, the ball ran kindly for Wales Mafata who was able shoot from the edge of the box beating keeper Aaron Omand.
With the opening league match just over two weeks away Manger Hakan Hayrettin must be looking to turn things around when Thurrock visit Concord Rangers on Saturday afternoon.
