West Ham Ladies 0 Watford Ladies 3

Bill Robinson reports from ship Lane………..

An impressive display by Premier division visitors Watford clearly showed their potential for the coming season outplayed an under strength Hammers side missing five regulars.

The score line does not do justice to the Hammers who fell behind after 10 minutes when Calley Rowell struck a shot from the edge of the box and despite a fine effort from Toni Anne Wayne she couldn’t prevent the ball entering the net.

The Hammers should have equalised on 17 minutes when a move by the two central strikers ended with the ball blasted over the bar.

Just after the half hour Watford extended their lead with a first class strike from Megan Wynne, from about 25 yards out she hit her shot sweetly straight into the top corner of the net giving the keeper no chance.

The second half saw the Hammers gain more possession and the game flowed end to end with chances being created by both sides.

Again West Ham could have scored within the first two minutes of the restart only for the looping shot to drift wide of the post.

Watford got the third late on in the 83rd minute when a through ball put Watford striker Sarah Wiltshire one on one with the keeper, Toni Anne Wayne’s effort to clear only saw the striker fouled and a penalty awarded.

Wiltshire got up to convert the penalty giving the visitors a comfortable win.
