A last minute Billy Holland strike spared the Millers blushes away at Ryman 1 North side Harlow Town.
Aveley looked promising in the first half and took a lead with only nine minutes on the clock as centre-half Tony Russell got the slightest of touches on Andy Howells inswinging cross to head them into the lead.
But just before half time the home side levelled as Howells bundled over Jeff Hammond in the box and from the resulting penalty former Hornchurch striker Sosthene Yao converted despite keeper Nicky Mitchell’s best efforts.
And it did not get much better after the break as Harlow dominated for the majority of the half, something that must be worrying boss Alan Kimble, and after a goalmouth scramble Andy Porter managed to bundle the ball home from close range.
But Aveley were just able to keep their unbeaten pre-season in the dying seconds of the match as subs Piers Wixon and Billy Holland, with the latter tapping into an empty net to spare their blushes.
