THE SUMMER cobwebs were blown away in this highly entertaining pre season game. Newly promoted Thurrock looked the more likely from the start, but as usual with type of match the pace was frenetic which in its way led to mistakes.
With both sides missing players due to holidays and the local V festival it took time to settle. Thurrock had the more dominant scrum and opened the scoring from a push over try, grounded by Luke Crowhurst, Aaron Burns added the conversion.
Rochford quickly pulled one back from a quick tapped penalty the spread the ball wide and had sufficient support to score in the corner. It was late into the first half when Ben Stanley went over in the corner to make it 12-5 at the break.
Both sides made changes and Rochford scored very quickly after the restart through former Thurrock winger Greg Stubbs to bring the visitors within a score. Thurrock however stepped up the pace and Nathan Farrell, Chris Banks went over fors score’s before Stubbs added another for the visitors. Ben Stanley and Luke Crowhurst added a further try each with Burns adding one conversion to seal a very worthwhile run out.
Before the game, YourThurrock took the opportunity to speak to skipper Rob Batho about how the preparations were going for the new season.
