IT WAS hard for staff at Grays School not to mask their disappointment that they were the only school whose percentage of students gaining 5 or more GCSE’s at A*- C including English and Maths actually went down.
Lynn Ibeji, Headteacher, has praised the most recent results as: “A valiant effort by our students, well supported by staff and parents, which has resulted in many students reaching or surpassing their targets.
“There were some excellent grades gained with many students achieving the highest grades of A* and A.
“Our work to ensure that the most able students gain the grades to meet their potential is more developed than ever and congratulations must go to them and their highly committed and expert staff.”
“Special mention should be made of the following students who have gained more than 10 A* or A grades: Holly Abbott, Elaine Bibby, Rebecca Connelly, Bobby Conway and Becky Lawrence. The most impressive set was achieved by Kostadin Kolev whose hard work was rewarded with 16 very impressive passes at A* and A grade.”
“As an inclusive school we work extremely hard with students of all abilities and we are very proud that we have raised the number of students gaining 5 or more A*-G grades – with our record now at 93% it means that almost all our students are able to go onto a college course if they wish and over 94% have registered to do this. They are well-equipped for the next stage of their careers, and they have developed vital learning and life skills in their time at The Grays School. We wish them every success.””
Jodie Farrell, the leader of the Yr 11 college said: “Almost all of our students – over 98%- gained 1A*-G grade. It is unfortunate that a few students left the school almost immediately before their final assessments began and did not sit any of their exams. However, most of our students have made us very proud and I am sure their parents and families will be delighted with their success.”
Doug Williamson, Chair of the school’s Interim Executive Board, “I am delighted to see that the school has beaten its national target for 5+A*-C grades, matching the school record of 60%. This demonstrates that we are continuing to make progress since coming out of Special Measures last September.”
