THE THIRD annual Garrison Estate garden and balcony competition was held this month.

The competition was arranged by Thurrock Council’s Tenant Participation team, the Purfleet Local Housing Office, and Family Mosaic Housing Association.

The community efforts highlighted the impact flowers and plants can make to an area and many residents had made impressive statements with their gardens, window boxes and balconies.

Cllr Andy Smith — portfolio holder for Housing — was at the prize-giving ceremony at the Mulberry Drive complex and handed out prizes to the winners.

The overall winner was Mrs Julie Dulieu, from Mulberry Drive, who won “best garden” and Julie and William Clough from Chieftan Drive won second prize and Mrs Shelia Mead from Mulberry Drive came third.

Other winners were Miss Victoria Hare from Rivercourt, for “best balcony” and Miss Theresa Avery from Marine Court, who won second prize for “best balcony”.

Tenants at the prize-giving were also informed that some residents are proposing to set up a Residents Association on the Garrison estate.
