IN MANY ways it was symptomatic of the opportunities and problems that confront Thurrock. We were busy filming on tuesday evening at 7pm at a rounders match between Upminster and Thurrock. The fields were busy with runners from Thurrock Harriers, footballers training and people walking their dogs. The car park was busy as people used the Leisure Centre.
Amidst all this, a number of youths decided to set fire to a bin spreading toxic fumes all over the park and forcing other youths who were using the playpark to flee.
The five youths alleged to be involved are seen walking away.
The Fire Brigade were called and extinguished the fire.
I hope that the footage has been passed on to the local police and that they will be following up this incident as they have identification of the suspects.
Thing is once they get to court they will probably only get a slap on the wrist.
Lambo, I hope you are right that the police follow up the situation, I agree that there is a need for harsher sentences to deter these youngsters.
However after a summer of discontent with anti social actions around the parks of Thurrock, I will be surprised if anything is done, incidents have been reported as ongoing and police arrive an hour or so later, then give off, “they are only kids being kids”.
Why should or do we have to put up with this blight on our lives, is it not time to instigate more stringent policing and set the tariffs higher for punishment, the other week it was reported a 12 year old was on the roof of Grays youth court and had to be encouraged down to appear, he should have been put in the slammer and made to realise this attitude is not right, instead of being slapped on the wrist and now he wears the report as a badge of his insolence.
confused, I agree totally with what you are saying, maybe they should look at setting up boot camps for those that are convicted of criminal offences, unfortunatley I cannot see that ever happening with our liberal laws and the left wing political correct mob that would scream and shout Human Rights at every juncture.
Unfortunatley the youth’s that commit these crimes know that the law is so weak that they will get off with whatever they do, the police’s hands are tied with all the red tape and paper work and when they eventually do make an arrest the courts hand out joke sentences.
