A TOURING Australian cricket team will be coming to Belhus at the end of the month to compete against the Essex Over-60’s.
The match will take place at midday at North Stifford on Thursday 30th September from 12.00 noon.
The match comes after a wonderful week of cricket held as part of the clubs 50th Year Celebration Cricket Week
Club Secretary, Fred Taylor said: “The club’s management board would like to thank all match and match ball sponsors for their financial support; our opposition clubs who produced some great cricket; the officials (umpires and scorers) who generously gave of their time without payment; our tea ladies for their gastronomic delights; members who tended the bar; our ground staff who prepared the wickets; the players who committed to the week and, most of all, to everyone who supported the raffle.
“We had an umpire who played against us in 1960; a club who produced the only bowler to claim 10 wickets against us; another for a late night social that saw the gates locked; a prestigious county 60+ X1; an ICC member country team from Prague CC who claim the first Siberian cricketer in world cricket; our Kentish neighbours who came with the knowledge that our record 10th wicket partnership was scored against them; and Mark Winter’s 1988 team that looked as good as the day they won the title, was filmed by Rob Fisher, DVD’s will be available soon”.
“On Tuesday, Mike Casey of local online newspaper yourthurrock.com interviewed Ralph Dellor a broadcaster of some repute with Grandstand and Sunday League cricket. On Thursday, a Scottish 7’s Rugby International, Cameron Little, visited us to catch up with an old friend, Colin Glover, who was in the Prague CC line up. Cameron played professionally for Glasgow and club rugby for Glasgow Hawks. It was indeed a memorable week – and blessed with fine weather too.
“The raffle raised a very welcome £414 for the club development fund – a superb effort and thank you to those who so kindly donated the raffle prizes”.
“The week was a resounding success and we have already planned to arrange it as an annual event with a number of clubs having already intimated that they would be pleased to participate”.
