Thurrock MEP To Stand For UKIP Leadership

THURROCK’S MEP, David Campbell Bannerman has joined the fight to replace Lord Pearson as leader of the United Kingdom Independence Party (UKIP). The challenge for David will be to fight off the challenge of former leader Nigel Farage as well as promote a manifesto that will take the party to the next level.

We spoke to Tim Aker, David’s political assistant about David’s chances, policies and where he sees UKIP going between now and the next set of elections in May 2011.

Lord Pearson was clearly an affable chap but did not have the rigour to be a credible leader. Nigel Farage did but appearances on Have I Got News For You tends to compartmentalise a politician as a character and not as a viable alternative. It is clear that they see David, with his experience in Northern Ireland and demands to put concrete domestic policies at the heart of the manifesto.
