YourThurrock has a rich quarry of journalists, film-makers, bloggers and artists from which to draw upon but when it comes to flagship films, there is only one person that we can call upon.
Mike Jones was commissioned by the organisers of The Orsett Show to create a specially commissioned DVD. From fourteen hours of footage, Mike has produced a special ten minute version for YourThurrock.
The organisers of this years Orsett Show are delighted to announce that this year’s event broke even and two local charities will be £1000 better off.
The weather always plays a big part in attendance and this year was no exception. Despite a good day of sunshine promised, black clouds threatened all day but luckily the day stayed dry.
Some have criticised the show organisers for the cost of admission. It is £10 for adults and free for school children but you must remember the show relies entirely on admission and sponsors and in today’s economic climate attracting business money is no mean feat. The show costs in excess of £110k to put on. Last weekend’s Barleylands show is dearer for a family and they have a large funfair on site as well which helps the coffers.
And you must consider the years when the show has lost money and heavily. In 1997 the show clashed with the funeral of Princesss Diana and the showground was empty; several years have been a total washout so you can fully understand why there has to be an admission charge. It’s not comparable to the Havering Show, which is free entry, but is totally subsidised by the Council Tax payer.
As you will see from the film 2010 will go down as a great success and everyone involved got something out of the day. Hats off to the organisers ,who work tirelessly throughout the year to put on this spectacular and thoroughly enjoyable country show
