Thameside pantomime launches

The 2010/2011 pantomime at the Thameside Theatre, Grays is Robin Hood and the Babes in the Wood starring Sarah Thomas (from BBC’s Last of the Summer Wine) as The Forest Fairy, Alex Marshall as Robin Hood, Mark Siney as Nurse Glucose, Postman Pat as himself!, Tobey Nicholls as The Sheriff of Nottingham, Carling Connor as Maid Marion, Matthew Shannon as Smiley O’Riley, Matthew Meddings as Plunkett. It runs for 63 performances between Friday 3 December 2010 to Sunday 9 January 2011.

Sarah has been playing the role of ‘Glenda Wilkinson’ in one of the BBC’s most popular sitcoms LAST OF THE SUMMER WINE for 25 years; Mark Siney is returning to the Thameside Theatre for his second year after his very popular Dame Dolly Jollybottom in Show White last year and Postman Pat is appearing under licence from Classic Media & Premier Stage Productions and is sure to prove a big hit with children everywhere from his ever-popular TV series which can still be seen on CBeebies.

In Merry England in the days of old, there lived within the green glades of Sherwood Forest a famous outlaw by the name of – you’ve guessed it Robin Hood! No archer ever lived that could speed an arrow with such skill as Robin, which is fortunate for the inhabitants of Nottingham and the beautiful Maid Marion, as the vile Sheriff is ruling with an iron fist! He has plans to marry the lovely Marion and having a hatred of little children – banish the Babes, Richard and Alice, for good.

Fortunately, in Pantoland, we always have a little help and this year it comes in the form of the Forest Fairy played by Sarah Thomas. She has lots of magic, bound for the heart of Sherwood Forest and will need to wave her wand and ensure the Sheriff bestows no harm upon Richard and Alice! Any pantomime would not be complete without its Dame and this year we welcome back Mark Siney as Nurse Glucose.

Nurse Glucose arrives in Nottingham to take up her new position as nanny to the Babes and will do all she can to keep her little charges safe! With a full chorus of professional Dancers and lots of local talent too – join our hero Robin and his band of Merry Men as they not only steal from the rich and give to the poor but also have to keep the Babes safe from their evil Uncle in a family pantomime full of fun and adventure!

As in previous years, the show will be presented/produced by Bruce James Productions with script by Debra James. There will be some fantastic singing and dancing and a large dose of comedy, sparkle, magic and spectacle thrown in for good measure!!
