Sam hopes to row to Olympic success

SIX foot tall and with a bright sporting and academic future ahead, Palmer’s College student Samantha Mullender has been successful in securing a place onto the GB Rowing Start Development Squad, sponsored by Siemens.

Samantha entered UK Sports nationwide Tall and Talented Competition last year. The competition is aimed at athletes aspiring to represent Great Britain at the 2016 Olympics. Samantha sailed through the trials for basketball and rowing. She was unsuccessful in basketball but was one of 40 to secure a place onto the GB Rowing Start Development Squad.

The Start Development Squad is based in Cambridge. Here, Samantha will train and build up her skills and hopefully fulfil her dream of getting onto the GB Rowing Team. As she is studying full-time, she will be training during the holidays and weekends.

Ex-Gable Hall student, Samantha is currently a 2nd year student studying A-level Biology, Chemistry, Double Maths and Further Maths. Samantha achieved all As in her AS exams. After College, Samantha hopes to study Biological Sciences at Cambridge University.

Mark Vinall, Principal of Palmer’s College said: “I am delighted with Samantha’s achievement and feel very confident that she will be a success, both in Sport and in her academic studies.”
