The Vertex contract: Council carries redundancy burden

MEMBERS of Thurrock Council’s Childrens’ Services Committee were left aghast last night when it was announced that the financial burdens of redundancies from Vertex staff would be met by Thurrock Council

In 2005, Thurrock Council entered into a strategic service partnership agreement with Vertex, the customer management arm of United Utilities PLC, to manage several support services including ICT, procurement, human resources and many more.

With a large numbers of council officers having received “at risk” redundancy notices over the past few months, there is speculation that some form of ‘redundancy apartheid” may take place with Vertex staff spared while council staff face the axe.

A spokesperson for Vertex was unavailable at the time of publication.

Thurrock Council in the Vortex over Vertex again.

  2. Par for the course with TBC to be honest, unfortunatley redundancies are affecting people across the country in public sectors, so really this story is a non starter.

Start by looking at the amount of internal waste and duplication that the Council have and also the amount of councillors that are not really required, why do we need a Mayor as well as a council leader?
