Man escapes Life threatening injuries at Tilbury Docks

The ambulance service has this morning (Wednesday) taken a man to hospital after an accident aboard a ship.

At about 8.47am, a 999 call came in from Tilbury Docks that the man had been briefly trapped between a container and the side of the ship he was onboard of.

An ambulance, rapid response vehicle, Thurrock duty manager Brad Lane and the Herts Air Ambulance attended the scene.

Brad said: “The patient, aged in his early 40s, was loading containers and had got out of his vehicle onto the deck.

“Thankfully, he was able to get out quite quickly from between the container and ship; however, he suffered a chest injury and his right arm was fractured.

“Initially we were unsure as to whether it was life-threatening, and so the air ambulance was deployed. But upon assessment and treatment, the aircrew doctor was satisfied the patient was able to travel by land vehicle to Basildon Hospital for further care.”
