Tooting & Mitchum 1 Aveley 0

Tooting & Mitcham 1, Aveley 0

AVELEY slipped to another Ryman Premier defeat at Imperial Fields where they were less than happy about the refereeing standards.

The game’s key moments both involved the official, who awarded Tooting a penalty in the 32nd minute when Aveley’s Tony Russell slid in the box and his arm made contact with the ball.

Millers were aggrieved but Tooting’s Geoff Pitcher shrugged of any controversy and duly converted the penalty to give his team the lead.

Aveley thought they should have got a penalty of their own nine minutes later when a Tooting defender appeared to handle but this time the alleged offence went unpunished.

Chances were few and far between in the second half as Tooting concentrated on holding on to their advantage, although Millers did have two good chances to equalise when Josh Llewellyn made a hash of a good opportunity when clean through and then Andy Howell sent a powerful header straight at the Tooting goalkeeper.
